The yule log has a long tradition, dating back to the way the ancient Vikings celebrated the winter solstice. Those living in the coldest regions of the world naturally celebrated the end of the shortest day of the year. The winter solstice marked the beginning of days becoming gradually longer, warmer, and brighter. As a part of the celebration, Vikings would cut a large log, drag it back to their village, and set it ablaze. My Grandma’s Christmas Legacy
This image is a Christmas stocking that my grandmother made for my daughter when she was just a baby. Although my grandma spelled Kristen’s name with an i instead of an e, there is just something about seeing my daughter’s name in my grandma’s handwriting that means so much to me, especially now that grandma is gone.
