In October of 2020, I decided that if the 2020 year was going to feel like six years, I wanted two of them to feel like Christmas. I was missing my grandkids, who I didn’t see as much due to social distancing. I was feeling isolated, and like a lot of people, I began to feel sad (which is an understatement).
To combat this feeling, I threw myself into preparing for Christmas. Getting into the Christmas spirit was harder during 2020, but I put up the tree and started searching decorating ideas online. Someone (I wish I knew who the original poster was so that I could give them credit. If you know, please leave me a comment!) had posted on Facebook an image similar to the snowmen you see in the accompanying picture. I got on Amazon and found what I need to create these packages. Each of my five (at the time) grandchildren received a snowman with three boxes that contained something to wear, something to read, and something they wanted.
My grandkids and I all barely recall what was inside the boxes, but they still talk about the snowmen boxes! It’s a memory we will all cherish for a long time to come. One of my grandgirlies asked me a few weeks ago if I was going to do snowmen again this year. I’m not. I’ve already got this year’s Christmas sorted out. Maybe next year we’ll do snowmen again … or maybe we’ll do reindeer! Or elves!
What other ideas do you have for me? How do you get creative with Christmas gifts so that young children remember that Christmas?
