Gift-giving as Part of the Christmas Tradition
Last year, each American spent, on average, almost $1,000 on holiday shopping in the months of November and December on gifts, holiday décor, and holiday parties and meals. A survey conducted by the National Retail Federation in October of 2022 indicates that 62% of consumers “agree that it is important to spend on holiday gifts and celebrations.”
I was not one of those surveyed by NRF; however, I agree that gift giving and celebrating are important. Think about it! What do you remember about Christmas as a child? The time with family? Yes. The decorations? Sure. The food? Obviously. No one can top my grandma’s Cornbread Dressing with Chicken!
Christmas absolutely should be about worshipping, about family, about togetherness.
But it should also be about hope and anticipation! It should be about being able to suspend all of the anxiety of our everyday lives and live in the moment. And gift-giving is a part of that!
