In May of 2023, This Little Light of Mine Candles, LLC was nominated in Keeping Christmas 365’s Best Small Businesses to Find Gifts for Couples contest and won “The Best Small Business to Find Décor Gifts for Couples.”
Her Inspiration
Barbara lost her daughter Vanessa in 2016 to Bacterial Meningitis (Men B). She promised her daughter that she would not let her light stop shining. This Little Light of Mine Candles is her way of keeping her promise. Barbara says that she launched her small business “as a way to not only honor her, but to also share her light with people around the world.” Vanessa’s photo adorns the This Little Light of Mine Candles logo.
Through her small business, Barbara hopes “to bring awareness to Men B so other moms will not go through what [she] did.”
A Day in the Life
Barbara works a full time job. Then, she comes home to answer emails, fill orders, ship orders, and keep up with her social media presence, all while taking care of a family and home. Her advice to others who are considering launching a small business making her niche (making candles, wax melts, fresheners, etc.) is to “pick a passion, be devoted to it, and be willing to work hard for it.”
